What is my favorite month to go fishing Tampa Bay?

I often get asked “What is my favorite month to go fishing Tampa Bay ?” For me that is a very hard question to answer. Every month in Tampa Bay always seems to hold something different to target. My reply is often “All twelve months of the year.” If I was to give an answer that was more direct I would have to say the months of March,April and May. These months are often the most productive months for Snook,Redfish, and Trout fishing in Tampa Bay. We also start seeing a large migration of Spanish Mackerel along with Tarpon starting to show up and along with them comes the Sharks. Its really a great time to go fishing.

This spring fishing season has not been a disappointment. March started out well and as we started getting into April the fishing has remained very good. Snook and Trout have been our number one target species. We have also been catching some Redfish along the way. Spanish Mackerel have shown up and on the days that its not to windy we can get out and have some real rod bending fun.

Let me show you some of the fish we have been catching.

First up are a few of the Snook that have been caught by anglers who have gone with me on a fishing charter this past month.

The Redfish bite has been good when we are able to get to them before all the other boats and anglers show up. Its not an easy task so we don’t get to target them on every trip. Weekdays on the right tides are usually best as we do have less people on the water.

Often the Redfish and Snook will roam and feed in the same area. On one charter we had a double hook up on Snook and Redfish.

The trout bite has been steady. Many of my anglers are taking a few home for dinner.

There are some of my fishing charters that are very memorable for me. Recently I took Jordan and his Grandfather Ivan out fishing  Tampa Bay. Ivan in all of his 84 years had never been saltwater fishing before. We had a really good time with Ivan catching his first of many Snook. Ivan has been a Bass fisherman all of his life. He was one heck of a great angler. His words to me after the charter we “This was a trip of a lifetime!” I really enjoyed taking Jordan and Ivan out. What a great memory seeing these two together.
