27 Mar Fishing Charters and Covid 19
I know you have been bombarded with news of the Corona Virus (Covid 19) and are most likely just like me wish it would all just go away. This worldwide pandemic has been both hard on business’s and the health of people all over the world. Its at this time I would like to say a few words about fishing charters and Covid 19.
I am not any type of medical doctor, scientist nor do I have the background in any of this. I can only go by what the CDC (Center for Disease Control) recommends at this time.
The CDC recommends keeping a distance of 6 feet or more between people in order to prevent the spread of the virus. Now I know that this is impossible at all times but we can all do our part to try.
This is where fishing charters comes into play. It is impossible for myself as a fishing guide to maintain a distance of 6 feet or more between myself and my customers while on the boat. Some guides are advertising that “On The Water Is the Safest Place to Be” or “Come out and do some Social Distancing”while this may be true to a degree if you are planning a boating trip with just you’re immediate family. Yes I would agree its probably a pretty safe place to be. Now ad a hired Captain to the mix. You have no idea who he has been in contact with on all of his previous charters leading up to you’re s. He has know idea who you have been in contact with or what your condition health wise is.
So really is it the safest place you could be? Is it truly social distancing to do a fishing charters at this time?
With all that being said at this time I am practicing true social distancing. As much as it hurts me financially I find it my responsibility as a Captain and business owner to forgo running any charters at this time. The safety of my customers, myself and my family come first!
During this crisis I hope you all will remain healthy and someday in the future be able to get out on a Tampa Flats and Bay Fishing Charter.
Here are a few pictures from previous outings leading up to my decision to forgo running charters until further notice.
The Kingfish bite has been hot! Snapper and Sheepshead were being caught. As we get further into spring and them summer fishing it will only get better. We will get past all this madness and we will be back to fishing!
