Happy New Year 2017 Fishing Report

Happy New Year 2017 is hear! I would first like to start fishing report by thanking all of those that hired me or gave me the chance to recommend another great fishing guide in our area when I was booked up and not available in 2016. I hope to see each and everyone of you again and I hope everyone had tight lines no matter who they ended up doing their 2016 Tampa Bay Fishing Charter with. I would also like to thank all of you who took the time to give your feedback and do a review of my services on Trip Advisor. Now lets get to the good stuff!

Dec 2016 was a great month for fishing and catching. We had some great catches of spotted Sea Trout with most customers being able to take home a limit of fish. We have also been catching the random keeper sized Redfish on my trips. Snook have also been caught but most have been on the small side. As I write this report I can say it stayed that way into the first week of January 2017. We do have our yearly cold fronts moving through the area now so this may change things up this month. It happens every year and as water temps drop we just have to adjust and fish for other species. Sheepshead,Snapper,Pompano and even Sharks can be an option.

Live bait aka sardines, pilchards, white bait have been thick in the bay. It will be interesting to see if it stays around the areas we are able to catch it or if it goes deep and out of reach. Sometime even when I can catch it in the winter the fish turn their noses up to it. It seems they go into a mode of eating shrimp and other crustacean. It may be getting time to switch to live shrimp and artificial lures such as the DOA shad tail rigged on a jig head. My other favorite can be the Mirrodine suspending hard bait made by Mirrolure. Both can be very effective for anglers willing to work the bait properly. A lot of my customers enjoy tricking the fish with artificial lures. I know I do!

Here are some pictures of some of the catches from December and the first week of January. I hope everyone enjoys and has a great New Year with screaming drags and tight lines in 2017!

trip advisorI sometimes get the request from a customer to do a little fly fishing. I have no problem with them bringing a fly rod along and sometimes they even catch a fish or two on fly.
