05 Dec Pleasant Weather Great Fishing!
This past month of November we have had some pleasant weather and great fishing in the Tampa Bay area. The outside temps have been spring like. I really enjoy this time of year. Its when our water temperature dips down into the low to mid seventy’s for a while. We can still catch some live bait on area flats and more importantly the fish are still willing to eat it. It probably wont be to much longer before we will be buying our bait (live shrimp) at the local bait shops. The water temps will drop some more and the fish will start keying in more on shell fish as they forage for a meal.
On our charters this past month and into the first of December we have been catching several different species of fish. The trout fishing has been exceptional.Trout from 17 to 23 inches have been the norm.
We have been also catching red fish but most of them have been on the small side with the occasional keeper sized fish coming on board.
Snook season closed Dec 1st but we still target them as catch and release. Catching large numbers of Snook hasn’t been the problem. The Snook bite will however slow down as the water temps drop. Its just the nature of fishing for snook.
Jack Cravelle have been roaming the back waters. on one of my recent trips customers had a blast catching the Jacks in the 10 pound range. If you have never caught one you will be surprised at the fight they put up on light tackle.
We have also been doing some fishing on inshore reefs and rock piles and I expect to continue doing so through out the winter as long as the winds permit it. You can expect to catch sheepshead, mangrove snapper and other species on the reefs and rock piles. Its a mixed bag and a lot of fun.
Here are a few pictures of some of the fish we have been catching on our recent charters.
